My Work

This is where I get to show some examples of my work.

Many of the projects you will see here, were outsourced to me by Kevin Dunstan, a good friend and owner of South West Design Studio Ltd. I feel I owe him a big thankyou for taking the time and having the confidence in me when I was just starting out.

No matter how much of which is learned through college, or courses and books, putting the theory into practice can be daunting and sometimes difficult. Having had someone to guide me through and share their own learning experiences with me at this difficult stage, certainly helped me and made it a much less daunting experience.

Definitive Security Services

Definitive Security Services was outsourced to me by South West Design Studio Ltd.

The client was after a fresh new look for their current web site. They wanted a content management system built into the new site so that they could easily manage the content and images themselves. They were also very particular as to how the site information was categorised, so I had to communicate closely and regularly also offering advice and ideas on how to achieve this.

The client offered many of their own ideas and although some of these had potential, others lacked a professional feel. Under these circumstances the client had to be made aware of the pitfalls and guided toward a better solution.

Technologies used – Xhtml 1.0, CSS 2.1, Javascript, Asp Classic and MS Access Database for swapping page header and image information. The CMS was developed by South West Design Studio.

The site is not live at this time.

The Mortgage Shop was also outsourced to me by South West Design Studio Ltd.

The site designs were already in place so the main part of the work was to disect the designs using photoshop, and then to write the markup code and the CSS.

Again a CMS was put in place, a location map and a contact form coded using ASP Classic

Technologies used – Xhtml 1.0, CSS 2.1, Javascript, Asp Classic.

The designs for this site were already in place and passed to me by my good friend at South West Design Studio.

I quite enjoyed doing this web site simply because of the pleasant light feel and simlicity in the design.

Again the main part of the work was to disect the designs using photoshop, and then to write the markup code and the CSS.

A CMS was put in place, a location map and a contact form coded using ASP Classic, and a database was used for image handling through the CMS.

Technologies used – Xhtml 1.0, CSS 2.1, Javascript, Asp Classic, Content Management System developed by SW Design Studio and a MS Access Database.

This web site uses a content management system and a database to upload and handle images for use in the lightbox picture gallery.

A simple ASP contact form was put in place and most of the content was added after completion by the client using the content management system.

Technologies used – Xhtml 1.0, CSS 2.1, Javascript, Asp Classic, Content Management System developed by SW Design Studio and a MS Access Database.

Theberton Lion

This site was designed by South West Design Studio and was worked on by both them and myself.

The design was a very welcome update to their existing tired site which to be honest looked like it came from the stoneage.

All of the images on this site are dynamically loaded via a database, and there is also an events page showing upcoming and past events which also relies on a database.

Again there is a full CMS in place.

Past Life Healing

This was a site I took on in the earlier days of my studying web design and development. It was a favour to a good friend of mine and also a little project for himself.

His existing site was very old and contained pages and pages of text but very little in the way of imagery.

As a photographer and a budding artist himself, he had great ideas for his new site. Much of these ideas simply were not usable on the web, but suited more to print. Despite this, I tried very hard to meet his requirements of big images and carefully placed text.

My biggest worry was the longer page loading times due to the large images.

After a lot of negotiation and thought I managed to come up with this design. Still very much his design, I reduced the size of the main images and used some javascript to center them on the page. This was to get around the massively differing screen sizes around these days.

Despite using a small amount of non standard and uncomplient CSS so that I could keep the magazine or print type feel for the page text layout, the finished site was pleasing for its owner and also, loading times were much quicker than first anticipated.
